    Are you vibing with OpendTect? 🧠

    “Vibe coding” is becoming a popular way to work with software. Instead of digging through documentation or writing everything from scratch, geoscientists and developers increasingly use LLMs (Large Language Models) to explore, prototype, and automate workflows using natural language prompts. Interestingly, OpendTect is perfectly positioned for this approach. OpendTect has always been open, scriptable, and extensible. Long before “vibe coding” became a buzzword, the platform was designed to let users move smoothly from interactive interpretation to programmatic workflows. Combined with LLMs, this opens up powerful possibilities.

    🟢 Start simple: vibing with data in Jupyter A natural entry point is using Jupyter notebooks with the OpendTect Python API (ODBind). With an LLM generating snippets, you can quickly: 🔷 Load seismic volumes or horizons 🔷 Extract slices or attributes 🔷 Run Python analysis (NumPy, SciPy, ML libraries) 🔷 Write results back into OpendTect For example: “Generate Python code using the OpendTect API to load a horizon, smooth it, and save it as a new horizon.” Within seconds you have working code you can refine.     🟢 Workflows, automation, and plugins Once comfortable, vibe coding becomes powerful for building repeatable workflows. LLMs can help you: 🔷 Batch process surveys 🔷 Generate attribute calculations 🔷 Convert external datasets 🔷 Automate interpretation steps 🔷 Create plugin skeletons or custom attributes Because OpendTect is open source, advanced users can even modify core code, improve algorithms, or add interpretation tools—with LLMs helping explain or navigate the codebase.
