Fracture Detection with OpendTect Pro's FracTex Plugin

Seismic texture attributes have long been used for seismic facies analysis and detecting geomorphological features. But what if we analyze these attributes in different directions? The result reveals anisotropy in the data—an essential indicator of fractures in reservoirs.

FracTex, a commercial plugin for OpendTect Pro developed by our partner Geo5, leverages this concept to enhance fracture detection. It generates two key outputs from directional texture attributes: 🔹 Anisotropy Factor – Linked to fracture intensity in a reservoir. 🔹 Azimuth of Fracture Dip – Highlights the direction of maximum data variability, corresponding to the dominant fracture orientation.

In the short video, we break down texture attributes, explain how directional attributes are computed, and demonstrate how FracTex works.
