Take a closer look at this interval of interest from our well know F3 Demo dataset, offshore the Netherlands. What do you see?
Years ago, two seasoned geologists—both using this exact same intersection for teaching—gave me two completely different interpretations of the interval you’re looking at. Same data. Different minds. Wildly different conclusions.
That’s the beauty of the F3: it’s packed with geological puzzles that spark debate. The interval shown here (between the green and magenta horizons) is one of the most talked-about. Some see textbook examples of downlap, onlap, toplap, and truncation. Others see artifacts. And some… see something else entirely.
So here’s my challenge:
What do you think you’re looking at?
Is it depositional architecture at its finest? Artifacts? Something else? Drop your interpretation in the comments—bonus points for creative thinking and a good geological pun.
Let the seismic sleuthing begin!
Next week I will share the workflow we used to uncover f3's secrets
