Next-Generation Interpretation Workflows
OpendTect 2026 is scheduled for release at the end of this quarter and introduces a broad set of enhancements aimed at improving interpretation workflows, data management, machine learning integration, and deployment.
Some highlights from the upcoming release include: • New HDF5-based well storage, consolidating well information into a scalable, high-performance format with improved metadata handling and support for multiple time-depth models. • Enhanced VDS cloud and compression support, including AWS S3 and Azure Blob integration, compressed VDS volumes, and smarter visualization through level-of-detail streaming. • Major improvements to the Well Manager, import/export workflows, and ASCII data handling, making it easier to work with large and diverse datasets. • New visualization capabilities in the Thalweg Tracker, enabling interpreters to interactively isolate depositional features and geobodies from tracked seismic facies volumes. • Faster shapefile rendering and visualization, particularly for large regional datasets. • A new interactive AI-assisted Fault Tracker, combining interpreter-guided seeding with automated fault extraction from Fault Likelihood and other discontinuity volumes. • Introduction of Zip Models, a portable machine-learning container that packages trained models, metadata, preprocessing, and post-processing workflows into a single reusable format.
We also introduced a redesigned installer for managing multiple OpendTect installations more efficiently and discussed the roadmap for features that will be released incrementally throughout the second half of the year.
