Probing 3D data with OpendTect volume viewers
Volume viewers in OpendTect (RGB(A) and Amplitudes) are conventionally used to slice through a volume of data in inline, crossline and Z directions by pushing / dragging the surfaces inside / out. Before OpendTect supported pre-loading data, this was the only instantaneous display refresh option for moving sections. To use volume viewers as a probe you need to load data outside the probe. The easiest way to do this is via the Display -> Position menu. Click on the "Set ranges to work area" icon. This will resize the volume viewer to the work area (if no work area is set, this will be the survey range). After loading the data, resize the viewer to the preferred size of the probe by pushing the surfaces in. The probe is moved through space with Shift – Left-click and drag.
