Razor sharp edges with Seismic Diffraction Imaging (DI)
In association with Moser Geophysical Services (MGS), dGB now offers Seismic Diffraction Imaging (DI) for 3D swaths or small volumes. The main benefit of DI is that it images subsurface discontinuities at much higher resolution than conventional reflection imaging. This includes faults, fractures, truncations, karst and other sub-wavelength scale features. Since such features are preferentially illuminated by the diffracted wavefield, DI fundamentally extends resolution and detectability limits.
For data optimally conditioned for PSDM, DI is generated by an additional migration focusing the diffracted wavefield. The MGS approach makes the added value of DI more accessible by low cost/quick turnaround for targeted areas. High resolution results customized to interpretation are now available for well planning, site surveys and pilots to establish optimal parameters and workflows for application to larger areas.
MGS has a track record in DI interpretation impact. The workflow leverages the PSDM velocity model and dip field, is validated by DI modeling of elementary geologic features, and customized to interpretation.
