What this policy covers

At dGB Beheer BV and its subsidiaries (here collectively called “dGB Earth Sciences”), we respect your privacy. We want to ensure that you get the information, content, and experiences that matter most to you. dGB Earth Sciences is committed to protecting the privacy of its members, customers, volunteers, and other contacts. This policy also includes collecting data about the usage of the OpendTect software, as well as the usage of the dgbes.com, opendtect.org websites and the OpendTect Prostore website (prostore.dgbes.com).

Scope

This privacy policy applies to all personal data processed by full-time and part-time employees, volunteers when acting on behalf of dGB Earth Sciences, contractors and partners doing business on behalf of dGB Earth Sciences, as well as all legal entities, all operating locations in all countries, and all business processes conducted by dGB Earth Sciences.

How we use your information

dGB Earth Sciences uses (and, where specified, shares) your personal information for the following purposes:
To process transactions. dGB Earth Sciences uses personal information such as name, physical address, telephone number, email address, and company/institution to engage in interactions with you, including contacting you about your order, donation, subscription, event participation, or membership. We use financial/credit card and payment information to process your order and may need to share some of this information with delivery services, credit card clearing houses, and other third parties to complete the transaction.

The dGB Earth Sciences Information Security Program protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of dGB Earth Sciences information assets by following a risk management approach based on policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures to meet security objectives while supporting business and operational goals.

How we store and secure your information

Information storage and security

dGB Earth Sciences may store your information in databases controlled by dGB Earth Sciences and third parties to which dGB Earth Sciences has outsourced the management of such databases. This information may be used to realising the above purposes. We will not put your email address(es) to newsletters or similar email lists without getting your explicit consent.

dGB Earth Sciences is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. To prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable administrative, organizational, technical and physical procedures to safeguard and secure the information. Cookies and other technical information

Logging practices

dGB Earth Sciences automatically records the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of visitors. The IP address is a unique number assigned to every device on the internet. Generally IP addresses do not change (it is “static”) and thus could be associated with the network you are using to visit our websites and using our services. The IP address that we collect may contain information that could be deemed identifiable.

As well as recording the IP addresses of visitors, dGB Earth Sciences may also keep track of the URLs that visitors used to visit dGB Earth Sciences' website and the search terms they used to find it. Do Not Track (DNT)

The online advertising industry has self-regulatory initiatives designed to provide consumers a choice in the types of ads they may see online and to conveniently opt-out from online behavioural ads served by some or all of the companies participating in these programs. Our websites do not respond to DNT consumer browser settings.

OpendTect software

The OpendTect software collects anonymous data from the computer environment that it is running on:

  • Update checks: OpendTect, as well as the OpendTect installer, collects a unique system ID as well basic system property such as number of CPU’s, amount of memory when contacting the backend servers for new software releases. The unique system ID is hashed, and cannot be traced back to an individual user. The collected information is used together with the IP address of the request to monitor global software usage, user location (country only) as well platform statistics.
  • Crash reports: in the event of a malfunction of OpendTect, a crash report is generated. This crash report contains information that will help OpendTect’s developers to locate and fix the issue. The crash report is a text-file that contains:
    • Technical information about the crash.
    • Technical information about the computer such as amount of memory, number of computer cores and a unique system ID. The unique system ID is hashed, and cannot be used to identify the user.
    • Any comments and/or email the user adds to the crash report before sending it.
    • The IP address of the user.

All data is viewable in clear text before it is transmitted. No data is transmitted without the active consent of the user. No application data, such as OpendTect projects (or parts thereof) is transmitted. The collected information is used by OpendTect’s developers to investigate the cause of the malfunction. If the user has identified himself in the comments he added, the crash report will be added to the user’s file by OpendTect’s developers, and OpendTect’s support may contact the user for more information, or to inform the user of fixes to the issue.

Other important privacy information

Personal data about minors and children

dGB Earth Sciences does not knowingly collect data from or about children under 16 without the permission of parent(s)/guardian(s). If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. Collaboration with authorities

dGB Earth Sciences will ensure proper communication with the relevant regulatory authority for privacy. In case of privacy issues, data breaches and/or complaints dGB Earth Sciences will lead investigative action, complaint handling and data breach notification. dGB Earth Sciences will also monitor regulatory changes and consult the regulatory authority where implementation of a regulatory or technological change leads to doubt.

Transfer of information to other countries

As a global organization, dGB Earth Sciences engages in a number of international activities. In connection with the management of those activities, dGB Earth Sciences may transfer information to other countries. By submitting your information to dGB Earth Sciences via the websites, or in connection with your interactions with dGB Earth Sciences offline, you consent to such transfers and to the processing of this information in other countries.

Responses to legal requests

dGB Earth Sciences reserves the right to share your information to respond to duly authorized information requests of governmental authorities or where required by law. In the event of bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction.
